Lumding-Silchar rail service disrupted

GUWAHATI, April 26 - Rail service in the Lumding-Silchar hill section was disrupted on Tuesday after one pair of wheels of the luggage-cum-parcel van of the 15601 Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express derailed at around 1.50 am between Mahur and Phiding stations, about 83 km from Lumding.

However, nobody was injured in the accident. The train, comprising 21 coaches, left Silchar at around 6.30 pm on Monday for New Delhi.

The derailed luggage-cum-parcel van was re-railed at around 8 am, while the train was taken back to New Haflong Station.

Senior officials of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) reached the affected spot to supervise the restoration work. Following the restoration work, normal train services in the Lumding-Silchar section resumed at around 1.20 pm on Tuesday. The 15601 Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express, which was stranded at New Haflong, left for Lumding for its onward journey.

However, the 12501 Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express from Guwahati was rescheduled, while the 55616 Silchar-Guwahati fast passenger was short terminated at Chandranathpur.

Meanwhile, the 25657 Guwahati-Silchar Kanchanjungha Express scheduled to leave on Tuesday was cancelled as well as the 55615 Guwahati-Silchar fast passenger.

The 25658 Silchar-Guwahati Kanchanjungha Express scheduled for Wednesday has also been cancelled.

Train services in the Lumding-Silchar section has been repeatedly disrupted in the past few days due to various incidents, including landslides and derailments.
