Lumding Railway workers stage dharna

LUMDING, March 3 � The Lumding Mazdoor Union of NF Railway organised a dharna in front of the office of the Divisional Railway Manager recently in support of their various demands. The Railway Pensioners� Association also participated in the dharna and a large number of women members of the union also took part in the sit-in demonstration.

The demands of the union were � measure to check price rise, employment to local youths implementation of labour laws, social security to all workers in the unorganised sector, withdrawals of the new pension scheme, job for one dependent from each retired employee.

In the dharna, Dilop Deb, president of the union, Subhas Singh, convener, Pradesh Dev, president, Pensioners� Association, Lumding NF Railway, Anjali Sinha, president, Lumding women�s branch, Subhas Das, general secretary, SK Rowth, secretary, Pensioners� Association, Ajanta Bhuyan, secretary, women�s branch of the union, among others, spoke on the occasion.

All of them dwelt on the demands and urged the authority concerned for their earlier redress. Subhas Singh, convener of the meeting, criticised the authority concerned for their alleged negligence and stepmotherly behaviour with fellow Railway employees who have been urging the government for a long period to lend ears to their legitimate demands and do the needful. He also, stressed on the cancellation of the new pension scheme, a �harmful� scheme for retired employees and employment of one dependent from each retired Railway employee�s family.
