Lumding-Badarpur rail service likely from June 16

By CORRESPONDENT

HAFLONG, June 10 - The rail communication between Lumding and Badarpur, which remained disrupted from June 2, may resume from June 16.

Rail communication was disrupted due to sudden settlement of the track between Mupa and Kalachand. This section of the NF Railways is the lifeline for southern Assam, Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram.

At a time when people are affected due to COVID-19 pandemic, the disruption of rail communication has affected the carrying of essential commodities.

The authorities, however swung into action to restore the communication as per target. Senior officials are at the site round-the-clock to supervise the restoration works.

PK Das, Divisional Engineer, NF Railways talking to this correspondent said he was confident enough to restore the communication as per target, provided there was no rain. He said due to heavy rain there was a sudden settlement of track due to which communication was suspended.
