By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Dec 29 - The lower primary school teachers of Assam will stage a protest on January 20 and 21 next year in support of their various demands.

In a statement, the Assam State Lower Primary Teachers Association (ASLPTA) said as part of the protest, on January 20, the lower primary teachers of the State will stage a sit-in-demonstration here and on January 21, they will hold Dispur Chalo in which around 50,000 teachers will take part.

The ASLPTA said the protests will be held as part of the nationwide call in support of various demands of lower primary teachers of the country.

Meanwhile, the organisation today slammed that State government for repeatedly depriving the lower primary teachers of their various rights.

We have been raising the demands to rectify all the pay-related issues of headmasters and graduate teachers working in lower primary schools in the State. But the matter remains under consideration even after a series of discussion held between us and the government. Again, many State governments of the country are now opposing the new pension scheme. But in Assam, the State government is yet to make any reaction on it, the Association said in a statement.

Pointing out the issues of contractual teachers and the teachers who are deprived of their monthly salaries, the ASLPTA today alleged that the future of these teachers become uncertain due to the negligence of the government.

In the same way, the government also deprived the students of getting the free uniform. Even in 2019, thousands of lower primary students deprived of getting textbooks.

The Association also slammed the education minister for insulting the teachers community from time to time by making anti-teacher remarks.
