Loss of work forces private school teacher to open incense-making unit

By RAMEN KALITA

NALBARI, Aug 17 - Many people in the State lost their livelihood due to the novel coronavirus pandemic-induced lockdown. Ranjit Das, a private school teacher of Majdia village in Nalbari district, lost his income after his school remained closed for the last five months.

Finding no alternative to run his family, the teacher started an incense stick making unit with money borrowed from the local Sanchay Samiti.

As the school has remained closed since March, I failed to get even the minimum salary. My family had to undergo a lot of hardship, Das lamented.

A science teacher and coordinator of Rupkonwar Jatiya Vidyalaya, Das said there seems to be no possibility of the school reopening soon, and so he launched Pranami Incense Sticks with the help of his wife Pranita Bhagawati and trainer Hira Bhatta.

The production unit was formally opened by Amal Deka, principal of Naboday Jatiya Vidyalaya. The inaugural function on Independence Day was attended by scribe Himjyoti Bhuyan, social activist Ganesh Namasudra, teacher Sanatan Barman and Kamala Talukdar.
