Lokayukta rejects GHADC graft probe report

By Newmai News

SHILLONG, Oct 4 - Meghalaya Lokayukta Chairman PK Musahary has rejected the report of the inquiry into alleged embezzlement of funds in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) submitted by former DSP of East Garo Hills Challang Ch Momin.

Musahary rejected the report after the findings were challenged by petitioner Nilbath Ch Marak.

Musahary also directed the Meghalaya DGP to appoint another DSP-rank officer from Shillong to investigate the matter afresh.

Marak had approached the Lokayukta against the Chairman of the current executive committee of the GHADC, Denang T Sangma, over the alleged misuse of Central funds meant for development of Williamnagar. The case has been filed over non-implementation of the projects allotted to Williamnagar constituency and in pursuance to the Complaint Case No 5 of 2020, the chairman of the Lokayukta had directed the DGP Meghalaya to start the preliminary inquiry on June 23 and to submit the report within four weeks, said lawyer PT Sangma, who represents Nilbath. Nilbath had filed a strong objection petition against the inquiry report.

In pursuance to the objection petition filed by the complainant, the Lokayukta has directed the Meghalaya DGP to appoint one DSP from Shillong in place of Challang Ch Momin, the then DSP of East Garo Hills, and further directed the new inquiry officer to expeditiously probe the matter and submit the report at the earliest, the lawyer said.
