GUWAHATI, June 16 - To discuss manufacturing and opportunities to domestic and international logistics service providers, a daylong summit was organised by Qonatus Consultus here on Friday. The event was supported by FINER and other industry/government organisations, besides a number of trade and commerce industry associations.
The first logistics summit in Guwahati was significant in view of the fact that the gateway city is a strategic as well as an attractive destination in the North East for border trade or export-import trades, thanks to huge opportunities in multi-modal connectivity and its proximity to South and South East Asian countries.
N Sivasailam, Special Secretary (Logistics), Department of Commerce, Government of India, was the special guest.
The conference was attended by some 150 delegates, including freight forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, airport/port/terminal operators, manufacturers, exporters/importers, government representatives, researchers, etc., from across the country and the neighbouring countries.
A press release stated that the manufacturing and infrastructure industry as well as the Government of India and the state governments in this region have put in tremendous efforts to make the North East a viable region as a whole with Guwahati as a successful transit hub for manufacturing, domestic distribution and export/import trade with many South and South East Asian countries.
As a result, the region is witnessing substantial investment (both private and government), infrastructure development and multi-modal connectivity, in addition to policy initiatives that encourage domestic and international trade.
Accordingly, there are huge opportunities before the logistics companies to explore business opportunities in this untapped region.
�However, there are some challenges that need to be addressed to expedite the growth of the industry,� said Ratan Paul, Content Advisor, Qonatus Consult, the organiser of the event.
He also informed that more such events will be organised across the North East, engaging India�s leading logistics companies to promote this region.
