Lockout continues for 4th day in Teok TE

JORHAT, Sept 4 - The lockout in the Teok Tea Estate continued for the fourth day today.

Jorhat district administration sources said that as per the decision taken at the reconciliation meeting convened by the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni A Korati at her office chamber yesterday to resolve the lockout issue, a meeting of the workers of the five divisions of the estate was held at the garden premises today to discuss about lifting of the lockout.

On Tuesday, representatives of the garden management, ABITA, ACMS, Labour Department officials had attended the meeting chaired by Korati.

In the meeting of the workers held today, which was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa and Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, it was stressed that normalcy should be brought and a conducive atmosphere created in the garden so that the management could lift the lockout and work resumes.

Speakers in the meeting told the workers that the attack on the doctor was an unlawful and condemnable incident, which should not recur again and law was taking its course in this regard.

The assurance sought by the management from the workers� side of not indulging in violence in future and never doing a repeat of the August 31 incident to reopen the garden was discussed and reportedly agreed upon.

Another round of reconciliation meeting to discuss about the lockout issue is likely to be convened by the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner tomorrow.

Police have picked up Manoj Majhi, former general secretary of ATTSA, Teok unit for questioning as there were allegations of him inciting the mob to attack the doctor.
