Lockdown violators to face strict action: Deputy Speaker

SILCHAR, March 29 - Assam Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar on Saturday said strict action would be taken against those found violating the lockdown clamped to defeat the spread of COVID-19.

Talking to the media on the sidelines of the recovery of a youth�s body from the Barak river in Sonabarighat, which falls in Sonai from where he has been elected, Laskar said, �The message has been sent clearly to the administration and police to act tough against those who violate the lockdown. No one would be left off since it concerns safety of lives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to all to stay inside for 21 days which would help the nation fight the disease and we must all follow the message at all cost to save humanity.�

The Deputy Speaker also said that culprits behind the killing of AISF jawan Baktar Uddin Barbhuiya at Sonabarighat shall not be spared. �I am pained over the incident when two persons from my constituency have died. People must stay home to keep any sort of untoward incident at bay. Already, a few persons have been apprehended and police is investigating the case. The guilty shall be punished,� he said.

Youth�s body recovered: The body of a youth who had drowned in the Barak river following a chaos over a tussle in the locality was recovered by an SDRF team.

The deceased was identified as Moin Uddin Barbhuiya (26), a tubewell operator. The body was recovered around 3.30 pm on Saturday. His brother Kadir Hussain Barbhuiya said that after the incident earlier in the day at the Sonabarighat market area where an AISF jawan died, there was simmering tension in the locality.

The Deputy Speaker who rushed to the spot immediately after recovery of the body termed the incident �unfortunate�. He appealed to everyone to maintain peace and calm said that as the family of the deceased would be given financial assistance at the earliest.
