Lockdown imposed in areas under Tinsukia, Makum municipal boards

DOOMDOOMA, Aug 5 - As a precautionary measure to contain the rapid spread of COVID-19 in the community, the District Magistrate and Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority, Bhaskar Pegu, imposed total lockdown in the areas under Tinsukia and Makum municipal boards of Tinsukia district under Section 34 of Disaster Management Act, 2005, with effect from 6 pm on Wednesday.

The prohibitory order also stated that it shall remain in force till 6 pm of August 11, 2020. However, essential services within the mentioned areas will remain unhindered during the lockdown period.

It can be mentioned here that due to the rapid spread of the virus in the community in Tinsukia district, a section of public suggested the administration to impose a total lockdown in the district for a few days. But, the district administration imposed the lockdown in the areas under Tinsukia and Makum municipal boards.

On the other hand, with the death of one Badal Debnath (56) from Digboi, the total number of the COVID-19 positive death cases in Tinsukia district has jumped to 24. Debnath died at AMCH, Dibrugarh on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, 154 fresh cases of COVID-19 were detected in the district during the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of COVID-19 positive patients in Tinsukia district jumped to 2,285. Of these positive cases, 674 are still active, while 1,611 patients have been released from hospitals. Five police personnel of Doomdooma Police Station, including the officer-in-charge, also tested positive for the virus.

On the other hand, one employee of Doomdooma Revenue Circle office also tested positive for the virus on Tuesday.

Amid spike in Covid cases in Tinsukia district, the district administration has started three more Covid Care Centres which include Agrasen Bhawan and Mandhania Bhawan by upgrading the quarantine facilities and adding additional requirements needed for a Covid Care Centre in Tinsukia town and Gumtibill Model Hospital in Sadiya.

Three other COVID hospitals and Covid Care Centres in the district are Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Civil Hospital, Tinsukia; Moohkhuli Model Hospital; and SAI Complex, Tinsukia.
