SILCHAR, Oct 26 - A lock-out was announced in Kumbhirgram tea garden under Udharbondh constituency of Cachar district on Friday, following a rift between the labourers and the garden management on service conditions.
According to sources, even as efforts were taken by the office of the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Barak Valley and Cachar district administration for a tripartite meeting at Udharbondh, the pursuit yielded no result.
The Barak Cha Sramik Union has reportedly demanded convening of a meeting at the office of the Assistant Labour Commissioner at Silchar.
It may be mentioned that garden labourers were unhappy with the management which led to a serious chaos in the garden on Thursday night. Moreover, there were also other factors that displeased the labourers, sources said. Senior police officers had to rush to the spot to control the situation.
