GUWAHATI, July 8 - The Guwahati Planetarium is arranging live shows of the ringed planet Saturn through telescope on the Planetarium premises at Uzanbazar here for about two weeks starting tomorrow.
The shows will be held from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm during this period, subject to clear weather conditions.
Some other interesting celestial objects, like gas giant Jupiter and its four Galilean moons Europa, Ganymede, Io and Callisto can also be viewed during these shows.
Saturn will be on opposition tomorrow, which means it will be closest to Earth in its orbit and aligned with the Sun and Earth. The opposition of Saturn occurs at an interval of twelve and a half months, i.e. 378 days.
We can see the planet in the eastern evening sky for a long period, and the planet will be visible for six months in the evening sky at different positions from the east to the west during this period. This was stated in a press release issued by Babul Chandra Bora, curator, Guwahati Planetarium.
Like Jupiter, Saturn, too, is a huge ball made mostly of hydrogen and helium. The second largest planet of the solar system, Saturn is a unique and spectacular world primarily because of its massive rings and thousands of beautiful ringlets. We can see Saturns rings with the naked eye when the rings are tilted not edge-on when viewed from the Earth.
