GUWAHATI, Jan 7 - The first literary sitting of Anuprerona Sahitya Chora was held at Kahilipara here on Sunday under the presidentship of DN Chakravartty.

Deepjyoti Saikia, secretary of Anuprerona, welcomed the guests and said Anuprerona has launched a literary wing to discuss the wealth of Assamese literature and also to explore the great possibilities of development of the language.

Madan Das, a retired bureaucrat, recalled his association with the people of Cachar and said there are several villages in Cachar where the descendents of the Assamese people who had fled the Brahmaputra Valley during the Burmese invasion have been still preserving the Assamese language and culture.

In her speech, Ajaya Bora, who hosted the function, narrated how she had been struggling to overcome her mental agonies and how literature, especially poetry, had sustained her, giving her a fresh lease of life. She also recited a poem.

While Anjana Hazarika stressed the need for such literary discussions, Kanchan Das spoke on collaboration among writers to explore and sustain the great possibilities of developing Assamese literature.

Chakravartty, in his presidential remarks, said Anuprerona, during the last six years of its existence, has been providing a literary and cultural forum for all the people of the Northeast to exchange thoughts and ideas and to enrich the entire region through collective efforts.
