List of literary, sports pensioners announced

GUWAHATI, Aug 14 � The State Government on the eve of country�s 64th Independence Day has announced the list of individuals selected for the monthly pension as well as for one-time financial grant from the fields of cultural, literature and sports.

While ten artistes have been selected for the monthly artiste pension, another ten artistes have been chosen for one-time financial grant. Further, family pension has also been awarded to families of five artistes who have passed away.

In the literary field too, 20 persons have been selected for the literary pension while another ten have been chosen for one-time grant.

Similarly, 20 sports personalities have been chosen for the sports pension and ten others will get one-time financial grant.

The list was announced jointly by Education Minister Gautam Bora and Cultural and Sports Minister Bharat Narah during a press conference today.

The Ministers informed that while those selected for monthly pension would receive Rs 2,000 per month, the recipients of the one-time grant would get Rs 25,000 each.

The State Government also announced the names of four NCC cadets selected for the Vir Chilarai Award.

The Ministers went on to inform that the State Government has maintained a corpus fund of Rs 1 crore for the Assam Artistes Welfare Fund.

Besides, corpus funds have also been maintained for Jyoti Chitraban, AFDC and Sankaradeva Kalakshetra.

�Similar funds would be maintained for sports personalities and journalists,� the Ministers informed.
