Liquor worth Rs 92 lakh destroyed in Kolasib

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, Nov 21 - Led by Excise and Narcotics Minister Dr K Beichhua, Indian Made Foreign Liquor worth Rs 92 lakh was destroyed in Kolasib on Friday.

The liquor was seized by the Excise and Narcotics Department under the Mizoram Liquor Prohibition Act, 2019. The destroyed liquor included 5,013 bottles of whisky, rum, vodka and beer.

After nearly two decades of prohibition, the previous Congress Government allowed opening of liquor shops in Mizoram in 2015.

The Mizo National Front (MNF), which was then in the Opposition, promised to restore prohibition in the State.

Mizoram officially became a dry State again in early 2019, a few months after the MNF Government assumed office.

However, both Indian Made Foreign Liquor and country liquor are illegally still sold at exorbitant prices in the State.
