SHILLONG, June 6 - The Meghalaya Excise Department has extended the business hours of liquor shops here by three hours. Earlier, the liquor shops and bonded warehouses in the State capital were allowed to open daily, except on Sundays, from 9 am to 4 pm. Now they will remain open from 10 am to 8 pm.
�All wine (liquor) shops and bonded warehouses in East Khasi Hills district�shall now open at 10 am and close at 8 pm each day from June 6,� the Excise Department stated.
The move is apparently aimed at generating additional revenue to tide over the State�s economic woes. But shops selling essential items, fruits and vegetables are still being regulated.
