Limba sees Jayanta as his clone

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, April 25 Regarded as one of the best archers the country has ever produced, Olympian Limba Ram, now the chief coach of Indian archery team, sees his clone in ace Indian archer Jayanta Talukdar.

His style of aiming and taking position is quite similar to me. He reminds me of my hay days, Limba Ram told The Assam Tribune in an exclusive interview.

Drawing more similarities with Assam boy Jayanta, Limba Ram, said, Similar to my playing days, Jayanta too does not like talking to people too much, especially before a match. In want him to scale greater heights.

On Indias chances in the Olympics, the countrys chief coach, said, The immediate goal for India is the ensuing Commonwealth Games and that would be the time when Jayanta, Tarundeep and Dola would have to concentrate that extra bit.

If any one has the potential to bring Olympic laurels for the country, it has to be Jayanta. Tarundeep, the countrys top ranked archer, is another prime contender with immense talent, he said, adding, It would however be very important that these top players strike form at the right time and maintain the momentum during the Olympics.

In the womens category too, Ram is pinning hopes on the likes of Dola Banerjee and Bombhala Devi of Manipur, in winning Olympics laurels.

Though, these players stand a better chance for Olympic medals, there are other top archers, who could give the top-ranked players a run for their money, he asserted.

Ram believes that archers from Korea, USSR, Italy and Ukraine would be tough to beat for the Indian archers in the Olympics.

On the infrastructure facilities here, Ram said that he is quite impressed on the arrangements, barring the accommodation facilities for the players.
