Receiving the award, Dr Bora expressed his gratitude to those who deemed it fit to give him the high honour, and at the same time revealed his indebtedness to his wife who had provided him with support and encouragement. Except for one novel, I had written all my other novels after my marriage, he said, adding that it would not have been possible without family support.
He recalled the late Dr Birendranath Bhattacharya as someone who had inspired him to write, and other writers whose works made him feel small and insignificant.
Referring to books, Dr Bora said that while there have been apprehensions over the popularity of various electronic media, the future of books in human civilization is secure. Electronic media can never compete with books, he asserted.
