BARPETA, May 8 � In a landmark judgement thirty two persons accused in a murder case was awarded rigorous imprisonment for life by a court here today.
The convicted persons include government employee and a gaonburha (village headman).
Wahab Ali, a resident of Dharmapur under Baghbar Police Station was murdered by a group of persons led by one Shamsul Hoque on October 1, 1998 over a land dispute. A case 155/98 under Section 147/148/149/302/201/324/323 IPC was registered with the Baghbar Police Station in Barpeta district. After prolonged hearing the additional district and session judge Chandan Das delivered the judgment under Session Case No. 808/98.
The convicts were accused of intimidation, use of sharp weapons in public places besides deliberate and wilful murder. All of them were sent to district jail this afternoon. It is worth mentioning here that two convicts are government employees, one head master of a primary school and one is a fourth grade employee in an ME school.
