Life crippled in Manipur

IMPHAL, Sept 21 � Normal life was severely affected in Manipur due to a dawn to dusk general strike which ended at 5 pm today.

There is no report of any untoward incident during the 12 hour general strike called by an armed group Maoist Communist Party, Manipur in protest against the alleged disappearance of banned Revolutionary People�s Front leader GM Changjou, after being arrested from Dimapur last month.

Most of the market places and educational institutions remained closed for the day as the passenger vehicles suspended their normal services during the strike. The strike also affected the functioning of the government offices in the State.

Meanwhile, reports reaching here from Tamenglong district headquarters said that three vehicles were burnt down by some unknown persons while the vehicles were parked in front of a hotel last midnight.
