UDALGURI, July 1 - "As we are told that Udalguri district of Assam is one of the backward districts of the State and the Government of India has selected seven such districts under her �Aspiration� districts from the State, the LICI has decided to adopt the district for its economic development and as such it has taken the initiative to make the average people aware of the Union Government�s people-friendly schemes to promote their standard of life and economic self reliance.� This was observed by Hemanta Bhargava, managing director of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LICI) on Saturday.
Addressing an assembly of villagers here at Monpur village near Udalguri town, Bhargava appealed to the people of Udalguri district to be aware of the low cost Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Beema Yojana with only Rs 330 per annum and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Beema Yojana with only Rs 12 per annum to cover their life security from the age of 18 onwards which would ensure economic self reliance even after the daily bread earner�s accidental death.
Speaking as a guest, K Kemu, regional manager of PMGS, SBI urged the villagers to get involved with this scheme to make their future more self reliant.
The awareness meet was also addressed by MR Sahoo, zonal manager,LICI, Guwahati division, D Deshpande, AGM of SBI, BC Brahma, Lead Bank manager of SBI among many others.
It is to be noted that the LICI came forward to adopt Udalguri district under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Swaraj Abhijan-2 as the Union Government has selected Udalguri district under it's �Aspiration District programme� along with six other backward districts of Assam. The LICI also presented a cheque of Rs 2 lakh to one Nimita Basumatary on the occasion under the scheme launched by the government.
The guests were accorded a warm welcome with a traditional Boro Bagurumba dance on the occasion.
Earlier, the LICI top brass and bank officials held a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district at the DC conference hall.
