Leopard killers denied bail

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Aug 5 - The Gauhati High Court has rejected the bail petition of four accused arrested on charges of poaching and smuggling of animal body parts recently.

Registered with the Gorchuk Police Station (case no.315/2020) under Section 51 of the Wild Life Protection Act, 1972, the accused allegedly killed a leopard in Guwahati and even took the teeth away of the big cat.

The arrested persons filed bail applications before the High Court seeking their release, and the same were heard by a bench headed by Justice Ajit Borthakur.

The bench rejected the bail plea on the strength of sufficient prima facie material which showed involvement of the accused represented by M Rahman. The State was represented by Bijon Kumar Mahajan.
