Leopard bone seized; 2 held

GUWAHATI, Sept 13 - Based on an intelligence input by STF, a joint team of STF, WCCB and Lokhra Range Assam Forest conducted an operation at Lokhra Chariali today and seized 2.7 kg of suspected leopard bone and four canines. Two persons have been arrested in this connection.

As per the statement given by the accused, they had brought the contraband item from Lahorighat in Morigaon district and wanted to sell it to a particular person.

The arrested men have been identified as Md Omar Farooque and Md Nekibur Rahman, both from Chatiantoli village under Lahorighat Police Station in Morigaon.

A case has been registered at Lokhra Range Office under WLP Act 1972.

�The arrested men will be produced before the CJM Court tomorrow and we will request for remand for further interrogation. Preliminary interrogation has revealed that both the accused are professional smugglers of wildlife body parts,� a WCCB official said.
