Lenin�s statue pulled down in Tripura

AGARTALA, March 6 - Incidents of post-poll violence are being reported from various parts of Tripura after BJP-IPFT�s landslide victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections.

At least 514 CPI(M) workers were assaulted by BJP and IPFT supporters till Monday, while over 1,500 houses were attacked, said CPI(M) state secretary Bijan Dhar here today.

A statue of Vladimir Lenin was pulled down by BJP supporters in the name of Vijay Utsav (victory celebration) at Belonia in South Tripura district on Monday evening, sparking a major resentment among the people.

When contacted, BJP state president Subal Bhowmik on Tuesday admitted that a terror-like situation prevails in the state after the party�s landslide victory in Assembly polls.

�In some areas, our party leaders and workers were also assaulted by CPI(M) supporters. We are keeping a close eye on the situation and request the administration to take all possible measures to control the violence,� he said.

A prohibitory order has been imposed in three districts � West Tripura, Khowai and Sepahijala to curb post-poll violence. Forces have been deployed in the violence-hit areas to control the situation.
