Lending an extra hand to control traffic in Silchar!

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, Sept 21 - With the traffic in Silchar bursting at a bizarre pitch, 27-year old Satyabrata Bhattacharjee has come out to become an extra helping hand for the Silchar Traffic Police in managing erratic vehicular movement.

Satyabrata also known as Kartik among friends is seen controlling traffic every day from 6 pm to 9 pm. A resident of Kanakpur Part II here, Satyabrata works at a local shop during the day.

I have seen people in Silchar stuck in traffic congestion for hours every day. There is a serious loss of time. We have narrow roads but if we follow the rules, the problem can be solved to a great extent. I decided to volunteer as a traffic official with this small effort since April and I am happy, Satyabrata told The Assam Tribune.

Asked if he was ever involved in any argument with vehicle owners, Satyabrata said people have hailed his initiative. But he was quick to express his wish of more people coming forward to help the traffic police in keeping the roads free from congestion.

Meanwhile, Kamalesh Singh, in-charge of Silchar Traffic Police, expressed happiness over Satyabratas effort and said: Kartik has been helping us with his dedicated service for a long time now. We are happy to see such a noble move by a youngster and hope others too step in and join hands for the cause.

He said that if people come forward, they can assist in controlling traffic in their respective areas.
