Legend�s death widely mourned

GUWAHATI, Nov 6 � With the entire State mourning the death of music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika, condolences continue to pour in from different quarters.

The All Assam Students� Union (AASU) has called upon the people to light earthen lamps in their households on November 7 and 8 as a mark of respect to the maestro. It also asked its district, subdivisional and local units to fly their flags half mast till November 9.

The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) in a condolence message recollected the unparalleled contributions of the maestro and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul. It also called upon the State Government employees to light an earthen lamp in their campuses at 6 pm on November 8 as a mark of respect to the legend.

Journalists Union of Assam deeply mourned Dr Hazarika�s death, terming it as an irreparable loss in the State�s cultural spheres. It also conveyed its heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family members.

The BJP, Assam Pradesh, today a held a condolence meeting and decided it keep its party flag half mast for three days as a mark of respect to the maestro. It said that Dr Hazarika�s death was a loss not just to Assam or India but to the world.

Dr Pravin Togadia of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) also condoled the maestro�s death and termed it as a loss for the nation.
