Leftist leader, veteran lawyer Jiten Sundi passes away

TEZPUR, March 24 - Senior advocate, social worker and veteran CPI (M) worker and an inhabitant of Padum Pukhuri par area here Jiten Sundi passed away on Sunday night at around 10.15 pm at his residence. He was 75.

Born on July 1, 1945 at Thelamara-Keherukhunda area near Dhekiajuli town in Sonitpur district, late Sundi after his schooling at Dhekiajuli High School with flying colours in 1962 got admitted to St Anthony�s College in Shillong and after completing his Pre-University course graduated in Science from the same college in 1966. Later, he took his Masters degree in Mathematics in 1970 and Law in 1973 under Gauhati University.

He started his career as a teacher. He served at Don Bosco School, Guwahati from 1969 to 1974. Later, he joined the Tezpur Court. Besides his practice as a successful lawyer in the Tezpur court, he was also the president of Assam Tea Tribe Students� Association.

He was a lifetime member of the CPI (M). He was also a candidate in the last parliamentary election from Tezpur Parliamentary segment. His death was widely mourned in the town. Different organisations including, the Sonitpur District Unit CPI (M), Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Tezpur Bar Association, Tezpur Law College, Sonitpur Press Club, Sonitpur Journalists� Union, All Assam Journalists� Union among others paid their last tribute to the noted social worker.
