Left party cadres lathicharged

SILCHAR, July 8 � Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse cadres of the Left parties on Monday, when they tried to break into the office of the Deputy Commissioner, during a Statewide protest against the �anti-people� policies on price rise and the Land Acquisition Bill adopted by the Central Government.

According to the Shamdeo Kurmi, secretary, SUCI(C), over 450 cadres of the Left parties including the Cachar district units of CPI, CPI (M), SUCI(C) CPI (ML) Liberation, All India Forward Block courted arrest. They were sent to the makeshift jail at Chhotelal Seth Institute and were later released. As many as 50 protesters, including women sustained injuries in the police action and ensuing melee. Kurmi said that the cadres began their protest march from the Narsingtola ground and reached the DC Office campus. �Around 1pm police broke into our cadres with lathicharge leaving many severely injured,� he said.
