Left Front sweeps Tripura civic polls

By Prabir sil

AGARTALA, Dec 12 - As expected, Left Front on Saturday registered yet another emphatic win in the civic elections in Tripura.

Of the total 49 Wards in the prestigious Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), the ruling front won 45 seats with a massive margin while opposition Congress could secure only four Wards.

Four sitting councillors of Congress had to eat dust due to the well-coordinated strategy by the ruling Left Front. The BJP played a spoil sport in some Wards by giving an edge to the mighty Left Front.

Not only AMC, Left Front routed the opposition Congress in all municipalities thirteen Municipal Councils and six Nagar Panchayats.

The BJP made a mark in Dharmanagar and Kumarghat Municipal Councils and Panisagar Nagar Panchayat by finishing in second position ousting archrival Congress.

In other Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats, the Congress candidates had to face humiliating defeats at the hands of CPM candidates.

The Left Front has congratulated the voters of all civic bodies across the State for ensuring massive victory for the ruling front.

Speaking to media, Left Front convener Khagen Das said that the massive win in the civic polls across the State would send a message to rest of the country in terms of peace and development.

The LF Government in Tripura with its limited resources is continuing their endevours to develop the State which has become a model State in the country with peaceful co-existence of all communities, he said.

LF has created a history by securing all the 20 municipal bodies including Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and six Nagar Panchayats and people of Tripura have once again supported the LF for our commitments, he added.

Giving details of the seats captured by LF, he disclosed that among the 310 seats of municipal bodies, LF got 291 seats while opposition Congress won only 13 seats.
