Lecture series on Sri Aurobindo�s philosophy

SILCHAR, Oct 17 - �The future belongs to the young. It is a young and new world which is now under process of development and it is the young who must create it. But it is also a world of truth, courage, justice; lofty aspiration and straight forward fulfilment which we seek to create. A brave, frank, courageous and aspiring youth is the only foundation on which the future nation can be built,� said Sri Aurobindo once.

In a bid to reverberate the philosophy of the great Indian nationalist, the Centre for Studies on Human Development (CSHD) at Assam University, Silchar, will organise a year-long 150-hour lecture series on �The Foundations of Indian Culture� starting from November 24 this year which will conclude in December 2021.

Dr Niranjan Roy, professor at the Department of Economics at the university and the coordinator of the lecture series, told The Assam Tribune on Saturday, �The programme is an initiative for reawakening the youth towards India�s cultural ideas and ideals. India is passing through a phase of demographic dividend and it is a crucial time for giving emphasis on capacity building exercises for empowering youths with the philosophy and vision of Sri Aurobindo to imbibe the spirit of nationalism, patriotism and idealism. Diganta Biswa Sarma, known author-translator and an ardent devotee of Sri Aurobindo who has to his credit the Assamese translation of The Foundations of Indian Culture and closely associated with Aurobindo Society will be the key resource person and facilitator of the series. Further there will be guest lecture sessions to be delivered by eminent experts in the field.�

The lecture series is actually a small endeavour which will certainly serve as a medium that fulfils an indispensable prerequisite by facilitating and promoting study and learning of India�s cultural conceptions towards a reassertion of the Indian cultural values and ideals as declared by Sri Aurobindo, Dr Roy said. A four-member organising committee headed by Prof Gopalji Mishra from the Department of Social Work has been formed for the ensuing event, he informed.

Moreover, there will be a total of one hundred sessions of one hour and fifty minutes. In a week there will be a maximum of two sessions preferably in the evening hours on the virtual platform using Google Meet.

Any individual, having a spontaneous and sincere urge and lofty aspiration to know, to understand and to realise the profound and deeper conceptions of Indian culture as expressed in its great and glorious ideas and ideals can join the sessions by applying to the organising committee through email along with duly filled-in registration form by paying a registration fee of Rs 1,500 on or before November 10, 2020, the coordinator added. Certificates will be provided to all the registered participants who remain present during all the academic sessions of the event, he added.
