Leak of rank holders name ahead of results to be probed

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, May 15 - Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya will order an inquiry into allegations that the name of a rank holder was leaked a day ahead of the results date (May 15).

Social media was abuzz last night after a message was circulated stating the name of an HSLC candidate as the topper.

However, although the candidate did not top the rank holders chart, his name did feature among the rank holders.

Replying to a question at the press conference, Bhattacharya said that the matter will be probed and those responsible for spreading the message would be identified.

We will ask the cyber crime wing to probe the origin of the message in the WhatsApp, the minister said, adding, we are going to give exemplary punishment to those found guilty.

On reports of schools not receiving free textbooks, the minister said that not everything reported in media is correct.

However, the education department has initiated an inquiry to ascertain whether the free textbooks have been diverted to private schools.

Since some private schools follow the same curriculum, we are trying to find if the shortage of books is linked to these private schools. A thorough inquiry is on, the minister added.
