Leading teams to take part in Bodousa Cup

GUWAHATI, June 10 - Some of the leading teams of the country like BSF, Shillong Lajong FA, NEROCA of Manipur, ASEB SC, Oil India Limited among others are likely to be seen in action in the eighth edition of the Bodousa Cup Football Tournament which will kick start on June 26 at the Nehru Stadium here.

This time the organisers, Bodousa Sports Association, are planning to hold the championship in four places-Guwahati, Tinsukia, Jorhat and Kokrajhar. Altogether 18 teams have been invited for the tournament which will be a league-cum-knock out affair.

Addressing the media here today, the president of the Bodousa Sports Association Arunjyoti Moran said, to popularise the event in the State they are organising it in four different places. The district associations of those places will extend all supports in organising the group league matches.

Two quarterfinals, semifinals and the final, on July 10, will be played at the Katchujan Field, Tinsukia while Kokrajhar, apart from hosting a group, will organise two quarterfinals.

ASEB will square off against Assam Police Blues in the opening match at the Nehru Stadium here while Shilong Lajong FA and Borhonkha Club are the other teams in this group.

The champion and the runners up teams will walk away with a purse of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively. Apart from that, the player of the tournament, highest scorer, best goalkeeper will get Rs 3,000 each. Cash award will also be presented in some other categories also, Moran said.

Ankur Dutta, secretary of the Assam Football Association and Munin Nobis, president of the Guwahati Sports Association, who were present in the press conference, assured all possible help in organising the event in a befitting manner.
