Leaders should be freed before talks: Pradip Gogoi

JORHAT, Sept 12 � �The peace talks between ULFA and the Government are possible only in a friendly atmosphere. This could happen when all the imprisoned members of the central committee of ULFA are freed from the jail,� said Pradip Gogoi, vice-president of the outfit, addressing the public at a Gana Abhibartan organized at Dahutia here today.

Gogoi said that the central committee can only take decisions about the future course of the organization. Talking about the preconditions of the peace talks, he said that all the members of the central committee should get a chance to assemble in a free atmosphere without any pressure from the government to determine the next step.

He also added that the people must not be kept in the dark about the ongoing happenings regarding the peace talks. The government should create a friendly atmosphere for the peace talks to happen as soon as possible.

Six resolutions were adopted at the Gana Abhibartan regarding the peace talks for a permanent solution of the insurgency problem.

Earlier, Bhaben Tamuli, joint secretary of the organizing committee, delivered the welcome speech. The Abhibartan was conducted by a committee of three members, namely Jivan Sharma, Gakul Boruah and Jibeswar Saikia.

Organizations like Asam Sanmilita Mahasangha, Pachim Jorhat Anchalik Yuva Parishad, Tai Ahom Chatra Santha, Krishak Adhikar Suraksha Samiti, Thengal Kachari Mahila Parishad, Chaodang Jatiya Prishad, Chutiya Jati Sanmillan, Nari Adhikar Suraksha Samiti, Ujani Asam Pratibandhi Suraksha Samiti, Brihattar Asamiya Yuva Mancha, Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti and Sadaou Asam Anusuchita Jati Sangram Parishad also offered helping hand to today�s Abhibartan.
