Lawn bowling tournaments

GUWAHATI, Jan 23 � Assam Lawn Bowling Association (ALBA) is getting ready for holding an elaborate coaching and competition programme at the Sarusajai Green (pitch) here from February 5 onwards.

The organisers are planning to organise a week-long Nursery Camp from February 5 where any player can take part.

Elaborating about the reason for holding the preliminary camp and the State level league championship here in the city, ALBA secretary Naba Basumatary said, as the districts donot have infrastructure for this game they have no alternative but to organise camp as well as competitions hare.

Lawn bowling body president Durgadas Boro said players from all over the State are likely to take part in the camp from where they are expecting new talents who can take part in the State championship which will get off on February 19.

After holding the Nursery Camp ALBA will conduct the Open League among the novices from February 19. After the Open League they will host the Classic League basically among the national level players and after that the Super League will be held among the international and national level players along with the selected band from Open and Classic Leagues. However, they are yet to finalise the dates of Classic League and Super League.

The organisers further opined that even players of international level also can take part in the Nursery Camp and Open League.

The ALBA president revealed that they have been putting pressure on the All India Lawn Bowling Federation to hold national meets for all age groups so that players can be trained for international championships from young groups.
