Law panel proposals on Advocates Act opposed

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 23 - The Akhil Adivakta Parishad in its recent meeting held at Jammu expressed grave concern over the proposals made by the Law Commission on amendments to the Advocates Act, 1961, which it said, tends to put the legal profession in the docks, and is unacceptable.

The gen secy of the State branch SC Keyal opined that the proposed amendments tend to lower the stature of the legal profession. They seek to reconstitute the respective State Bar Councils in a way that majority in our representatives will be nominees of HCs, which will undermine the autonomy of the Bar Council and dilute the independence of the legal profession, the statement said.
