Law and order improving, says Gogoi

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 23 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the celebrations of Durga Puja festivity by the people of the State with unbounded joy, cheerfulness and enthusiasm late into the night is a clear indication that the law and order situation has changed drastically in the past 14 years ushering in peace, progress and prosperity.

In a statement here on Friday, Gogoi said, The present Government assumed power at a time when law and order had totally collapsed with development activities coming to a grinding halt. There was fear psychosis all around with people fearing to venture out of homes at dusk. Employees had to go without salaries for months. But today the situation has changed drastically following a slew of development initiatives backed by a strong urgency to instil confidence in the minds of the people by bringing back peace that eluded for many years.

Gogoi said though the State is marching ahead on the path of peace, progress and prosperity, it has still a long way to go. There is no doubt at all that the State has made remarkable progress on various fronts during the past 14 years.

May the blessings of Goddess Durga and the ideologies of Srimanta Sankardeva, Madhabdeva and Ajan Fakir be our guiding light to take the State along the high road of glory and prosperity and make it an oasis of peace, he said.
