PANDU, May 22 � The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NF Railway did a creditable job during the month of April 2015 when 13 cases of theft of railway property were detected and property worth Rs 1,01,750 recovered and 18 persons nabbed and prosecuted. Important among the cases were recovery of six packages of readymade garments worth Rs 30,000 from railway track from 13248 Danapur-Kamakhya Capital Express; recovery of 6 quad OFC cables valued at Rs 39,000 stolen on April 13 in between Harmoti-Tatibahar railway stations in North Lakhimpur; recovery of ten bags of sugar worth Rs 18,000 mischievously unloaded from the train at Chalsa railway station by miscreants; recovery by Rangiya RPF from one Krishna Singh, hailing from Bihar, of 22 numbers .38 and 31 members .303 live ammunition and prosecution of the culprit.
Speaking to this correspondent here PRO, NF Railway, Maligaon, Nipen Bhattacharjee said that during the month RPF officers conducted a drive against touts and apprehended three personnel. They also arrested 141 unauthorised hawkers and prosecuted them under relevant railway acts. A person named Sanichen Tirkey was nabbed for stealing a high-tech mobile phone and cash of Rs 500 from a passenger of a train. Forest products worth Rs 50,000 (sal and teak logs) were rescued during the month from a train compartment by RPF staff of Coochbehar.
Two minor boys were rescued by the RPF and one of them handed over to the Child Line and the other to his parents, Bhattacharjee added.
