Last rites of scribe performed

GUWAHATI, June 10 - The last rites of journalist Nand Kishore Gupta were performed at Navagraha cremation ground here this afternoon. Earlier today, the body of Gupta was brought to the city from Mumbai by air. He passed away on Thursday at the Mumbai airport on his way back to Guwahati.

In the city, the body of Gupta, a senior sub-editor with the Hindi daily Purvanchal Prahari, was brought to Guwahati Press Club where floral tributes were paid to the departed soul. The body was then taken to a school at Bamunimaidam (Gupta was the president of the school�s managing committee) where students and teachers paid their last respect.

The Press Club has urged the State Government to release an ex gratia amount to the bereaved family members. Family members and the journalist fraternity have expressed their gratitude to the home department, Assam Police and Mumbai Police for facilitating smooth transportation of the body from Mumbai.
