BADARPUR, April 30 - Landslide clearing works are being done on a warfooting in Fiding and several other badly-affected places of the Lumding-Badarpur hill section of the NF Railway, said the CPRO of the NF Railway Pranab Jyoti Sharma.
Though senior Railway officials, engineers etc., are working day and night to clear the sites, but the work is being obstructed due to heavy torrential rain. Cracks have developed in several places creating difficulties for the staff, Sharma told this correspondent.
Replying to another question, the CPRO said that to restore train services, the NF Railway authority is taking all possible steps and it is expected that train services will resume very shortly. The affected railway tracks, tunnels and bridges are being repaired speedily, he said. Expressing deep concern, some top-level Railway engineers and experts told this correspondent that, railway tracks never settle strongly on hilly and stony soil. Instead, it is very much essential that there should be land-soil under the railway tracks, which help them to get set strongly. Thy added that in the Lumding-Badarpur BG Hill-section, all the railway lines have been set up on hilly-stony soil due to which land slides can devastate these tracks easily. The CRS reports have also mentioned about these troubles.
However, the NF Rly GM, HK Jaggi has assured that traffic on the railway track will be restored soon, with the staff bravely fighting the natural calamity in the hill section.
