IMPHAL, July 9 - Many Manipur-bound trucks have stranded on the Dimapur-Kohima sector of National Highways 29 and Imphal-Jiribam sector of National Highway 37 following landslides in Nagaland and damage to a bridge in Manipurs Tamenglong district.

Sources said, a stretch of Kohima-Dimapur sector of NH 29 near Kohima sank in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday following incessant rain while a bridge over Barak river on NH 37 was damaged when a loaded truck was passing on it on Sunday morning.

Movement of goods trucks have been restricted on both the National Highways since Sunday. More than 100 Manipur-bound goods trucks are stranded along the hilly Nagaland sector of the highway while another about 100 trucks were also stranded along Imphal-Jiribam Highway near the Bridge, reports said.

However, light and medium vehicles are directed to use Jotsoma village to by-pass road and Peducha to Chesama route in Nagaland. Similarly light and medium vehicles are taking the old (Barak) bridge located close to the new bridge in Manipur.

An official of National Highway & Infrastructure Development Corporation which is maintaining the Imphal-Jiribam sector of NH 37 has informed that the repair and restoration of the bridge over Barak river is underway. Machineries have also been pressed into service for restoration in Nagaland sector, sources added.
