Landslide at Kharghuli hills

GUWAHATI, June 10 - Last evening�s torrential downpour resulted in a landslide in the Kharghuli hills locality of the city and led to collapse of the guard wall of a house.

The Kamrup Metro district administration said that the landslide caused collapse of a guard wall of a property belonging to one Akid Zaman. The wall fell down and caused some damage to another house owned by one Kamala Chakravarty which is located downhill from Zaman�s compound.

However, nobody was injured in the incident.

Circle officer of the Guwahati revenue circle, L Saharia inspected the site this morning accompanied by officials from the district administration, department of soil conservation and SDRF. During the inspection they found that both the houses, belonging to Zaman and Chakravarty, are in a danger-prone area.

Based on the findings of the inspection, the Kamrup Metro district administration and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) have directed residents of both the houses to evacuate their properties and stay at some other safe places till adequate safety measures are taken.
