DIBRUGARH, Feb 21 The land acquisition affected people along the proposed NH 52 (B) stretch within the district, have resolved to stage 700-hours sit-in-demonstration during the ensuing Assam Assembly session.

The land acquisition affected people are miffed over the delay in solving the controversial land and property valuation. The NH 52 (B) road project is being constructed from Kanubari in Arunachal Pradesh to Borborooah in the district here via Sapekati in Sivasagar district. All the land affected families under the banner of NH 52 (B) Khyotigrosto Suraksha Sammittee Joutho Manch will be taking part in the demonstration, a release stated.

The organisation also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner here today, apprising him that a construction company was using muscle power in Jokai area to assume construction despite their appeal to stop further construction until the matter was settled. The Joutha Mancha had placed the request to halt the construction during a joint meeting of the district administration, representatives from among the land affected people and Dibrugarh District Legal Service Authority at Deputy Commissioners office on December 16. Following the joint meeting, the matter was referred to the higher authorities for solution, the leaders of the Manch said.

When the issue is still to be addressed and settled, how can the administration allow further construction? the organisation has asked. The leaders of the Joutha Mancha have asked the district administration not to provoke the affected people by using force to undertake construction works without determining the proper valuation of land and property of the people.
