Lalrinnungi tops Mizoram HSLC exam

AIZAWL, May 2 - Lalrinnungi, a vegetable vendor�s daughter, has topped the High School Leaving Certificate (Class X) examination, 2019, conducted by the Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE), the results of which were declared today.

The 16-year-old student from St Joseph Higher Secondary School, Aizawl, said she cried in joy when she learnt she had topped the examination. She scored 486 out of 500 marks and secured letter marks in Mathematics, Science, Social Science, English and Mizo. In an interview with this news agency, the jubilant Lalrinnungi said she had not expected to top the examination though she was confident of a good performance.

Her parents, Zothantluanga and Lalhlimpuii, are daily wage earners and sell vegetables to support their children.

Lalrinnungi said she also helped her parents in selling vegetables at markets during weekends when she was studying in primary and middle school and also during holidays at high school.

The MBSE conducted the HSLC examination from February 28 to March 20. Out of the 17,989 candidates on the roll, as many as 17,346 appeared for the examination and 11,783 students, including 6,005 girls, have successfully cleared the examination, registering an overall pass percentage of 67.93.

At least 20 students have figured in the top 10 list. After Lalrinnungi, Angeline Lalpekhlui and F Remsangpuia � both from St Paul Higher Secondary School, Aizawl � have topped the list.
