JAGIROAD, Dec 26 - A life-size statue of Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa was installed at the premises of Borkola Adarsha Prathamik Vidyalaya, situated at Borkola Adarsha Lalung gaon in Nagaon district on Friday in the presence of a large gathering. The village headman Manoram Dekaraja inaugurated the statue made by artist Lakhyajit Bora of Garo-khunda, Nagaon in which Dr Basanta Kr Goswami, former secretary general, Asam Sahitya Sabha, Dr Hitesh Deka, Vice-Chancellor, Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya, Nagaon, Dr Naren Kalita, Morigaon SP Dr Nanda Sing Borkola among others were present.
A meeting was organised on the occasion where Dr Goswami in his speech, explained some original Assamese words with their meanings in reference to Lakshminath Bezbaroa and Assamese dictionary. Other speakers also spoke on several aspects of the contribution of Bezbaroa. Two books O Mur Opaja Thai, edited by Dr Nanda Sing Borkola and Kabita Rani Sing and Badan Chandra Laskar-Puharot Tita Manuh written by Dr Nanda Sing Borkola were released in the meeting by the guests.
Mathematics Day observed: On the occasion of the National Mathematics Day and to commemorate the birth anniversary of famous mathematician Srinivasa Iyengar Ramanujan, under the aegis of the Jagiroad unit of the �Asam Ganit Sikshyatan�, a function was held on the premises of the Jagiroad College on Tuesday. The meeting also paid glowing tributes to the legendary mathematician.
The topic of the discussion in the symposium was: �Finding a solution to the issues in the transaction of teaching-learning in mathematics at the secondary level of education.� Chaired by the president of the unit, Dr Anandaram Buragohain, the meeting was coordinated by Parag Tamuli, Assistant Teacher, Jagiroad HS School. A number of teachers in mathematics of the area participated in the deliberations on the subject. Tamuli as a part of his deliberations, demonstrated certain tricks to show how one can innovate ways to solve tricky problems concerning mathematics at different levels of its teaching and learning.
The function was inaugurated with a chorus presented by the students of the Mathematics department of Jagiroad College. It was also attended and addressed by two senior college teachers, Dr Sohail Ahmed of the English Department and Dr BK Sarma of the Economics Department.
