Lakshminath Bezbaroa cross-country journey to reach city today

GUWAHATI, May 5 - The Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa cross-country adventurous journey titled �Karmabhumi to Janmabhumi� was flagged off amidst bad weather and rain from Bezbaroa House in Sambalpur, Odisha, on Saturday.

Pradip Padhi, working president of the Odisha State Swimming Association, waved the flag to kick off the journey. Instead of the conventional flag, an Assamese gamosa was used for the purpose.

Deepak Kumar Panda, convenor of the Lakshminath Bezbaroa Memorial Committee, Sambalpur; noted sportsperson Md Idris Mallick, Sanjit Kumar Mitra, Loknath Pandey and others were present at the time of the flag-off.

The mission is being led by retired Indian Air Force official Prashanta Pradhan, and includes his wife Pinky Pradhan, a Sambalpuri folk dancer, his father-in-law Prem Ranjan Pradhan (Jharia), who is a retired principal of a college besides being a renowned sportsperson and sports organiser, and his mother-in-law Kuni Pradhan.

Panda said the team was scheduled to reach Guwahati around 3 pm on Monday. After reaching Guwahati, the team will go straight to Bezbaroa Chowk and pay homage at the statue of Bezbaroa at 4 pm.
