Lakhimpur flood situation remains critical

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, July 4 - The overall flood situation of Lakhimpur district has remained critical as water level of major rivers and tributaries are still flowing above the danger level.

The surging water has submerged new areas, including Amtola region due to a breach in an embankment of Ranganadi river.

Incessant rains for the past several days have inundated a wide area at Amtola and Pabho forest in North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle today. According to district administration, altogether 18 villages with a population of 25,000 have been affected so far in the district. In Nowboicha revenue circle, the overall flood situation is still critical. Sixteen villages, including Balitika, Balijan, Haripur, Konwarpur, No 2 Naharani, Haribor-Naharbri, No. 2 Solmari, Phukandoloni, Dolahat, No 1 Kolakhowa, Digh Pukhuri, No 30 FC Grant, Bharaluwa, Boloma, Bishnupur and Solmora have been affected by flash floods of Singra river. According to an estimate, 97.30 hectares of crop areas have been damaged by floods so far in North Lakhimpur and Nowboicha Revenue Circle.
