Lakhimpur enter final in JK Barua cricket

MANGALDAI, April 7 � Lakhimpur have entered the final of the JK Barua U-19 Inter District Cricket Tournament registering a sensational one-wicket win over Kokrajhar in the first semi-final here today.

On the final day of the match at the Mangaldai stadium, chasing a small victory target of 72 runs, Lakhimpur almost lost the match at a time when they had lost nine wickets with 17 runs still to get. However, Latu Baruah (20 no) and Abdul Hannan (4 n.o) kept their nerves and gave the team the much needed win in 31.5 overs. Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 59 for 4, Lakhimpur ended their first innings at 121 in 39.5 overs. Dipankar Miri (18) and Hrisikesh Rabha (14) were the two Lakhimpur batsmen who helped their team score some kind of respectability.

Now Lakhimpur will lock horns with the winner of the second semi-final between Silchar and Hailakandi which begins here tomorrow. Sambhu Nath Deb and Alakesh Sarma conducted the first semi-finals as umpires.
