Lakhimpur dist prepares for polls

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, March 8 - The Lakhimpur district administration is all set for Assembly elections scheduled to be held on April 4 here. This was stated by Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Debeswar Malakar in a press conference held in his office recently.

All the four LACs of Lakhimpur district � 109-Bihpuria, 110-Nowboicha, 111-Lakhimpur and 112-Dhakuakhana � will go to polls on April 4, the DC said. Announcing the poll preparedness of Lakhimpur district, he appealed to the administrative officers and contesting candidates to follow the Model Code of Conduct of the election till May 21.

He added that the dates for filing nomination papers are from March 11 to 18. The papers will be scrutinised on March 19 while the last day for withdrawal of candidature is March 21.

Speaking to mediapersons, the Lakhimpur Superintendent of Police, Brajendrajeet Singha, said that in total 197 polling stations of Lakhimpur LAC, 41 have been identified as very sensitive, 33 as sensitive and 123 as comparatively safe polling stations.

In Bihpuria LAC, 29 polling stations have been identified as very sensitive, 46 as sensitive and 105 as comparatively safe polling stations, the SP said. In Nowboicha LAC, five polling stations have been identified as very sensitive and critical, while 48 as sensitive and 175 as comparatively safe polling stations. Nowboicha has also been identified as an election expenditure sensitive LAC, SP Singha added.

In Dhakuakhana LAC, 77 polling stations have been identified as highly sensitive, 51 as sensitive and 94 as safe polling stations. SP Singha added that the deployment of CRPF personnel has been sought to ensure smooth and secure conduct of polls in Lakhimpur district.

The district administration officials also informed that voters whose names were dropped from the electoral rolls could enter their names to the list till March 18 by filling the Form-VI. The press meet was also attended by ADC Mausumi Baruah and Election Officer Bishnu Dutta Sarmah.
