By CORRESPONDENT

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, April 4 - One identified person from Lakhimpur district who returned from the Tablighi Jamaat in Nizamuddin, Delhi, has been tested positive for COVID-19. This was stated by the Lakhimpur District Health Department on Saturday following communication by State Health Commissioner to Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Dr Jeevan B.

The COVID-19 positive person has been identified as Babul Ali alias Babur Ali (19) of KB Road, ward number-11 of North Lakhimpur town.

A known petty criminal, Babul went to the Tablighi Jamaat in early March and returned home on March 20. His neighbours alleged that Babur left the Tablighi Jamaat midway after stealing money from the Markaz and returned home.

He was seen roaming freely outside his home after his return when the strict measures were announced by the State against the spread of coronavirus. The authorities were informed about his status by his neighbours when the Nizamuddin Markaz fiasco came to light.

His blood sample was sent to ICMR laboratory in Lahowal, Dibrugarh, on Friday from where the confirmation of the presence of coronavirus came on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 positive person has been put in isolation ward in North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital.

An investigation by this correspondent found that the COVID-19 positive Babul Ali has been living with his family members comprising 15 persons of various ages in close proximity ever since his return from Nizamuddin Markaz.

The Lakhimpur district Health Department has speeded up the process of bringing all his family members and other persons who had met and visited them for quarantine. The authorities here are also stepping up measures to seal the area and sanitise the locality in North Lakhimpur.
