GUWAHATI, June 19 � Actor Lakhi Barthakur passed away at the Down Town Hospital late last night. He was 63.
He was admitted to the hospital on June 15 morning following a brain stroke he had suffered at his residence the previous night.
A powerful actor who shone both on the stage and on the silver screen, Barthakur acted in 28 films � including several acclaimed movies. He leaves behind his wife Beena Das, a folk singer in her own right, and a son.
His last rites at the Navagraha crematorium were largely attended.
Actress Chetana Das, recollecting their days as drama artistes at Rabindra Bhawan several decades back, said :�He had great talent as an actor and was quick-witted. He was very thorough about his work and was always eager to learn.�
Producer-director Rajen Rajkhowa said that Barthakur was among his natural choice for a major role in the TV serial Gharat Kon Ase. �A sincere and dedicated actor, he had a natural flair for acting and was very knowledgeable on the subject.
